How it happened
Tampa Bay jumped on rookie Logan Henderson in the first. Chandler Simpson singled in Yandy Díaz, stole second and scored on Junior Caminero's single, and Liam Hicks followed with a 411-foot, two-run homer to right-center, the first home run of the Series. The Rays led 4–0 before Milwaukee came to bat.
The Brewers answered right away against Drew Rasmussen. Jackson Chourio and Jake Bauers singled, William Contreras drove in Chourio with a hit-and-run single up the middle, and Garrett Mitchell lined a two-out single to right to score Bauers. In the fourth, Cooper Pratt walked, Sal Frelick singled, and David Hamilton's grounder slipped under first baseman Jonathan Aranda's glove for an error that scored Pratt and made it 4–3. Rasmussen was done after 3⅔ innings.
Henderson lasted three innings, and the bullpen took it from there. JoJo Romero, Dustin May, DL Hall, Abner Uribe and Aaron Ashby held the Rays scoreless on three hits over the final six innings.
Frelick led off the sixth with a homer to center off lefty Ian Seymour to tie it 4–4, Milwaukee's first home run of the Series. In the seventh, Brice Turang doubled off Tyler Wells and moved to third when Victor Mesa Jr. ran down Mitchell's deep fly to right. Pratt then lined a single to right off Kevin Kelly to give the Brewers their first lead.
Milwaukee missed an insurance run in the eighth when Chourio was thrown out at home on Contreras' grounder; the Brewers challenged the collision play and the call stood. In the ninth, Jonny DeLuca led off with a double against Ashby and reached third on a groundout, but Ashby struck out Mesa and then Díaz on a check swing to end it.
Turning point
Tied 4–4 in the seventh, Brice Turang doubled off Tyler Wells, tagged to third on Garrett Mitchell's flyout, and scored when Cooper Pratt singled to right off Kevin Kelly for Milwaukee's first lead.
