Contreras' 7th-inning homer lifts Brewers past Padres 3–2 in NLDS Game 1
The Milwaukee Brewers beat the San Diego Padres 3–2 in Game 1 of the 2026 NLDS on October 3 at American Family Field. William Contreras broke a 2–2 tie with a 406-foot solo home run off Adrian Morejon in the seventh inning, and Trevor Megill got the final four outs. Milwaukee took a 1–0 lead in the best-of-five series.

How it happened
Jacob Misiorowski opened the Brewers' postseason by touching 105 mph in a scoreless first inning and struck out six over four innings. San Diego got to him in the second: Luis Campusano singled in a run and Jake Cronenworth drove in another on a fielder's choice for a 2–0 Padres lead.
Jackson Chourio answered in the bottom of the third with a 420-foot, two-run homer off Robbie Ray that tied the game. Ray lasted only 2⅔ innings, and the Padres' bullpen kept the game tied into the seventh.
Milwaukee's bullpen bent but never broke. Aaron Ashby, Antonio Senzatela, Abner Uribe and DL Hall handed the ball to Megill without allowing a run, even though San Diego finished with nine hits and four walks. Every Padres run came in the second inning.
In the bottom of the seventh, Contreras turned on a pitch from Morejon and sent it 406 feet to right-center for the go-ahead run.
Megill entered in the eighth with the tying and go-ahead runs on base and got out of it against Fernando Tatis Jr. With one out in the ninth, Ty France drove a ball deep that struck wiring near the roof at American Family Field. Chourio caught it as it came down and France was ruled out. The Padres challenged, the call stood, and Megill closed out a four-out save.
